What Car Next?

September 30, 2009cathyhp No Comments »

I’m currently in the market for a new car and I have my eye on a used Lexus!

I’ve had a Peugeot 206CC for the last year and I loved it - it was nippy and sporty looking and driving with the top down in the summer was a wonderful feeling. Getting my grandson and all his paraphanalia in it was something else!

Now, I didn’t have to get him in that often but when I did, I had to put his car seat in the back, strap him in then contort his legs so that the front seat could be upright before it could then be slid forward to ease his discomfort a little.

Don’t Let Time Pass You By

Yesterday, I went to my friends house. I call her my friend but we haven’t seen or spoken to each other in nearly twenty years. Close at school my memories of this particular friend are very fond - we laughed all the time, we had so much in common, we liked all the same things - I thought we’d stay in touch forever.

However, not long after leaving school and we both moved into relationships, jobs, children etc and lost touch. I married first and, thanks to a jealous husband, lost touch with a lot of friends. She married and I never knew her married name. And so the years went by.

Not Just For Summer

In almost every office or work place you will see water coolers these days. Soem think it’s a fashion/trend thing but in truth there are a lot of benefits to having water on tap like that.

Many people are not fans of drinking water because they see it as boring but when you weigh up all the health benefits, in our health obssessed world now, it seems crazy to pass up this commodity. Keeping up the body’s water levels is essential to get the best out of it. With as little as a 4% reduction in our personal water level, our work performance will decline by up to 30% because our blood becomes thicker and more sluggish leading to a poor brain performance.

Time For The Dreaded D Word Again!

That’s D for diet!

I’m not one of these women that just loses weight after Christmas or for a summer holiday. Oh no, not me, I insist on torturing myself on a regular basis!

Of course, I am one of those typical women who are never quite happy with their weight and yes I know, it’s only me that could possibly notice that extra four pounds or so but why is it that i feel the size of a house and think everybody’s laughing at me for having let things get so far?

Whacky and Wonderful

In today’s news I see a New York ‘artist’ has taken balloon sculpting to a new level!

After discoverng his talent while making a little money on teh side in his student days, the balloon shaping perfectionist has taken things to a new extreme. Creaitng larger than life displays, it seem slittle wonder that people think they look like underwater creatures.

Of course this isn’t a cheap pasttime, with Jason Hackenwerth needing up to 5,000 balloons a time for his displays.

All good fun though - hope he does kids parties!

The Wonders Of Social Networking

September 18, 2009cathyhp No Comments »

Now, I can’t claim to be one of these social networking buffs on every conceivable site but I do have a Twitter, YouTube and Facebook account. Facebook is the only one I use on a regular basis and it’s addictive!

I’ve found several old friends on there and had lots of laughs and fun catching up with people but I have to say, this last few days on FB have been eye openers!

Is It Just Me?

Ok, so summers barely through and the kids have only just gone back to school but something in the air has most definitely changed! The days are cooler, the nights are calling for a jumper, the smell of home fires is in the air and the nights are drawing in. You’re considering putting the heating on you hover by your coat in the morning, undecided about whether you can go without for a few more days (or is it just me?)

Well We Did It!

September 16, 2009cathyhp No Comments »

10th September came and went far too quickly!

We finally tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in beautiful surroundings on a beautiful day. All our plans came together in a manner that couldn’t have been more perfect or less stressful.

I started the day with the hairdresser and got ready surrounded by my beautiful bridesmaids all exciteable. I couldn’t believe how nervous I was! My new husband had arranged for an old fashioned Rolls Royce to transport me to our chosen venue so I travelled the forty minutes with my dad, getting increasingly nervous.

How Big??

I went to see the progress on my wedding cake last night. What a whopper!!!

Weighing in at 63lbs, this beast has four tiers and is the classiest cake I have ever seen!

It’s all thanks to my mum, an expert on making wedding cakes, who has created this beautiful masterpiece in ivory and chocolate shades with a hint of gold and bronze. Given that my mum is only four foot and fag butt high and working from the kitchen table she actually needs a stool to reach the top!

Thanks mum - pics to follow next week.

A Boy Named Sue

September 7, 2009cathyhp No Comments »

I see from the news today that teachers make assumptions about their pupils before they even meet them. They do this by scanning the register for typically ‘chavvy’ names such as Chardonnay or Connor, Brooklyn or Chelsea. I guess many parents don’t give much thought to the impact at school when they are choosing baby names but it certainly does have an influence.
