The Smell Of Childhood

Well, I don’t know about you but there’s nothing quite like the smell of childhood than a traditional wooden toy. The natural scent of the wood, the smoothness of its sanded surfaces, the vibrancy of the colours – all things that assault the senses and embed themselves in your memory for the future.
Simply picking up a wooden toy in the shop can transport you back many years to your childhood. Pull along toys, wooden jigsaw puzzles, building blocks and those great little cars with painted characters on them – I loved them all but where have they all gone?
You will find occasional websites and traditional shops that sell childrens toys but in the main all you will find are these garish plastic creations – many of which only last five minutes. You won’t find these being handed down through the generations, unlike the wooden toys of yesteryear!
Plastic toys catch the attention of a child and come with all the modern electronic noises but they will never have the same attachment as a wooden toy could achieve. I can’t believe the adults of the future will look back with fondness at their first lump of moulded plastic with any sense of nostalgia!
