I’m Back!!
August 10, 2009cathyhp No Comments »Well, I’ve just got back from the best holiday I have ever had which just goes to prove that you don’t need to be a long way from home!
My fiancee and I took our collective family of five children between the ages of 13 and 23, along with our 2yr old grandson and we went 2 hours up the road to spend the week in a beautiful old coach house set in the middle of woodland. The setting was perfect, the weather was perfect, the house was HUGE and gorgeous, the pool was warm, the snooker table was full size and just to make you completely sick – all the children were perfectly behaved and happy!
Now, I’ve never been on a holiday before and not experienced tension of some sort – in fact, tension would be an understatement! However, this is our first holiday as a new family and it couldn’t have gone better. Of course, we had the kids ‘debating’ what TV channel to watch at night which usually resulted in them ending up in the pool and us with wine in front of a film – who can complain at that!
The first night we watched a horror film together and despite their being enough space for everyone to have a room of their own, they opted to share rooms! Ha! Who’s hard now!?
I took a water pistol for my grandson and he took great delight in squirting it in his own face and drinking the contents – we may need some further lessons on the use of said water pistol! That said, he was hugely entertained by the hoover with it’s retractable lead – whatever floats your boat I suppose.
Pacing the holiday, we took every other day out for sightseeing and theme parks ( if you read anything that says I screamed like a girl on the roller coaster – don’t believe it!!) etc with the days inbetween spent chilling by the pool, barbecues and woodland walks – ahhhh, peace and quiet and not a mobile signal for miles!!
One thing that confused me was that even with 4 toilets there was always someone with their legs crossed hammering on a door!!
The house itself was enormous and no doubt helped relations go smoothly. A little tired and dated in places but it had the wonky floors of a fun house and much character. There was always a spot you could go for some quiet but most of the time we all enjoyed being together, laughing and relaxing so top Brownie points to Shaun for a fantastic choice of location!!
