The Criminal Justice System Does It’s Worst – Again
November 23, 2009cathyhp No Comments »The Government, the police, the CPS, the prison service, the probation service – in my book – all linked. Communication must occur between them – you would think. In a sensible world. In which we DON’T live!
Let me give you an example:
In a UK town lives a violent thug (one of many in the area). His history is one of violent attacks, theft and drug and alcohol abuse. He has two children. One of which he never sees becasue he can’t be bothered, or trusted. The other he had been offered supervised access to but has declined. He has never worked and therefore does not contribute towards the upbringing of these children.
The mother of his youngest child has been forced to take out a non-molestation order to try and protect herself from his violence. He is not allowed within 200 yards of either mother or son. She has also been forced to move 17 miles away from him to try and limit the encounters. Despite this, further attacks and death threats followed.
Thanks to a catalogue of errors by Essex Police, convictions have not happened. They claim they do not have the resources to collect evidence and therefore have nothing to present to the CPS. They have, however, given her limited ways to help herself by providing a personal panic alarm and installing cameras round the perimeter of her flat. Well, if he gains access to her home and kills her the family have the comfort of knowing he will be identified – upside down justice indeed!!
The police have identified this individual as being on the ‘verge of a significant violent assault’. Despite moves to re-habilitate him, in their own words, he is unlikely to be that type of person.
The probation service have heard from him that he wants to reform (this is one of many times he has said the same thing). He says he wants to be near his family (his son- the rest of his family live in his original home town). He says he previously lived in a certain town and wants re-housing there on his imminent prison release (he is currently doing time for theft). The town he wants to live in is the same one that his mother and son moved to in order to escape his violence.
So, here we have a man known for violence, who is not legally allowed near his son, who lied to the probabation service in order to get housed near his last victims, who is on the verge of a significant violent event.
How does this make any sense? Why do his human rights to get housed near his victim come above her rights to live iwthout fear of beatings or death?
This is why we have regular newspaper headings of women being killed in domestic violence incidents.
This is why two women every single week die at the hands of partners or former partners.
